Stage 3: Outcomes to Intentions
During the last stage of Piaget's stages of moral development is the concept of outcomes transforming into intentions. This stage occurs during the late childhood-early adolescence period for children. Stage 3 introduces the idea that children start to form their own idea of morality based on their own beliefs. In the first stage, children follow rules based on the consequences that follow if they do not. When encountering stage three, children have become more aware of other people's perceptions of morality, and eventually form their own based on a melting pot of ideas, motives, and behaviors. The complexity of morality is no longer so black and white.
